Sherwin Williams and GHF to Offer Class on “Green” Paint Products

Sherwin Williams Paints, in conjunction with Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF), will be presenting a short lunch-and-learn educational session entitled “GREEN Coating Solutions.”

The course will be held on Friday, August 29 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Courtroom at GHF headquarters, the 1861 Custom House at 502 20th Street. Sherwin Williams is providing a complimentary lunch for those in attendance and asks that all interested parties RSVP to Matt Farragher with GHF at (409) 765-3427 or matt.farragher@galvestonhistory.org by Wednesday, August 27.

This course will discuss the GREEN and LEED programs for environmentally friendly building products and procedures, the requirements for LEED Certification, and Sherwin Williams’ GREEN products. The course is geared towards architects, designers, painters, contractors, and anyone involved in the building trades. For architects that are members of the AIA and registered interior designers, continuing education units will be available for attendees

This course is being offered as part of GHF’s partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. GHF has recently received a Partners in the Field grant and will use the funding for educational courses on the use of GREEN building techniques/materials, lead-based paint safety, structural stability, energy efficiency, and disaster preparation for historic buildings.

Sherwin Williams continues to offer a 30 percent discount on all paint products to GHF members when they present the GHF membership card at any Sherwin Williams store across the country. There are also specially designed historic paint palettes from Sherwin Williams available at GHF Headquarters and the Architectural Salvage Warehouse located at 908 23rd Street.

GHF is the steward of 13 historic properties and attractions including Ashton Villa, the Bishop’s Palace, the Michel Menard House, the Great Storm Theater, and the Texas Seaport Museum, home to the 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA.

One of the largest local preservation organizations in the United States, Galveston Historical Foundation was incorporated in 1954 in response to the deterioration and potential loss of Galveston Island’s exceptional architectural legacy. As the organization matured, it expanded its role on the Island beyond historic preservation into community redevelopment, economic revitalization and heritage tourism.
